Web 2.0

Impressions about Web 2.0:

There is no doubt there have been changes in public libraries.

Divine institutions of knowledge.......yes......but many use for other reasons like
  1. a place to drop off the kids and go shopping,
  2. a community center
  3. a cheap motel to have sex in
  4. a place where users with library cards are slim and My Space viewers are rampant
  5. a place to ogle men or women
  6. a place to get print free passes to Crossroads or Club Love

I concur that there should be a collaborative effort between users and staff.

It is hard though because sometimes there is little collaboration between the higher ups and staff........

People have various information needs. Having a presence in the virtual world helps meet the needs of a larger group of people.

Some of the 2.0 agenda is applicable is some locations better than others. There is no one size fits all. Libraries need to embrace the pieces that best meet their users needs.

Mashup

I really enjoyed Flickr Color Fields. As a person who really enjoys bold color is was great to challenge this program to see if they could find pictures in all possible colors.

I liked the options especially, the doors and windows option, crayon box and catchy colors.

I will deifinitely use this again.

librarystuff.net

I discovered an interesting blog site called librarystuff.net.

It highlights current happenings in the information world.

For example, Mrs. Bush and her daughter are going to get together and write a kid's book about a boy who likes to do anything but read.

By the Way I like to play

I had fun with play week. I enjoyed creating my avatar. Meez had a lot of fun options, but I had to log on several times for it to work.

LIBRARY CHICK ROCKS!

The End

Overall, I think that this program opened my eyes to a variety of newly emerged technology.

There are some programs I enjoyed more than others. In particular:

  • Library Thing
  • Rollyo
  • creating an avatar
  • Flicker

Then there were some other things I did not like (no opinions here).....De.licio.us and Technorati

Oh, I forgot.... I liked SandBox Wiki

Project Gutenburg.....is a great source to locate classic or hard to find sources in audio....might be helpful for highschool students

I would like to see a change within the 23 things so that all the links in the program work.

Delicious left a sour taste in my mouth. ( 2 links didn't work)

Overall my experiences were good, so if offered I would participate again.

Project Gutenburg...is a wealth of knowledge.....great resource for classic literature some of was hard to find

Overdrive....has a lot of diverse books....popular...John Grisham...James Patterson

Audio is awesome.

Rollyo Rock on

I really enjoyed Rollyo. Think of the endless possibilities of creating databases with the topics of interest you love the best.

Great idea.
